Structural Features: It is a flange without a hole in the middle. It has a similar appearance to an ordinary flange but lacks the central hole used for connecting pipelines. There are various forms of sealing surfaces, such as convex surface, male and female surface, flat surface, tongue-and-groove surface, and ring joint surface, etc., which can be selected according to different working conditions and sealing requirements. Materials: Commonly used materials include metallic materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, copper, and aluminum, as well as plastic materials such as PVC, PPR, and CPVC. Blind flanges made of metallic materials have high strength and good corrosion resistance, and are suitable for pipelines with high pressure, high temperature, and corrosive media. Blind flanges made of plastic materials have good corrosion resistance, insulation properties, and a relatively low cost, and are often used in some chemical pipelines with strong corrosiveness or in occasions where insulation performance is required. Functions: It is mainly used to completely isolate the production medium to prevent the impact on production and even the occurrence of accidents due to the improper closure of the shut-off valve. It is usually installed at the connection port of the equipment, before and after the shut-off valve, or between two flanges. For example, during the initial startup preparation stage, when conducting pipeline strength tests or tightness tests, if it cannot be carried out simultaneously with the connected equipment, a blind flange needs to be installed at the connection between the equipment and the pipeline. When the device is constructed in stages, blind flanges are installed at the shut-off valves of interconnected pipelines to facilitate subsequent engineering construction. Classification: Judging from the appearance, it is generally divided into plate-type flat blind flanges, figure-eight blind flanges, plug plates, and gasket rings. The plate-type flat blind flange is a solid circle with a handle, and it is used for systems that are usually in an isolated state. The figure-eight blind flange is shaped like the number "8", with a blind flange at one end and a throttle ring at the other end. Its diameter is the same as that of the pipeline and it does not have a throttling effect. It is convenient to use. The blind flange end is used when isolation is required, and the throttle ring end is used during normal operation. At the same time, it can be used to fill the installation gap of the blind flange on the pipeline, and it has obvious markings, making it easy to identify the installation status. The plug plate and the gasket ring are mutually blind and open, and are mainly used for parts that are for one-time use, such as pressure testing and purging. Production Processes: Generally, there are four types, namely forging, casting and forging, cutting from medium plates, and casting. Among them, the forging products are the most expensive, followed by those cut from medium plates, and the casting and forging products are the cheapest, while the casting process is relatively poor. The blind flanges made by forging and cutting from medium plates have better quality, while those made by casting and forging are slightly inferior. The blind flanges produced by the forging process have a dense structure, high strength, and reliable quality, but the cost is also higher. The blind flanges cut from medium plates have better flatness, and their quality can meet general requirements. The casting and forging process combines the characteristics of casting and forging, with a lower cost, but the quality is not as good as that of the products made by forging and cutting from medium plates. The blind flanges produced by the casting process have the lowest cost, but may have internal defects, and their strength and sealing performance are relatively poor. They are generally used in occasions where the quality requirements are not high. Application Areas: It is widely applied in many fields such as the chemical industry, pharmaceuticals, food, environmental protection engineering, ships, urban gas, and HVAC systems. In the chemical industry, it is used for the isolation and blocking of various process pipelines to ensure the safety and stability of the production process. In the pharmaceutical industry, it can be used in the pipeline systems during the drug production process to prevent cross-contamination of different media. In the food industry, it is used for the pipeline connection of food processing equipment to ensure food hygiene and safety. In environmental protection engineering, it is often used in pipeline systems such as sewage treatment and waste gas emission to facilitate the maintenance and repair of equipment. In the field of ships, it is used for various pipeline systems of ships, such as fuel pipelines and seawater pipelines, to ensure the safe operation of ships. In urban gas and HVAC systems, it also plays the role of pipeline blocking and isolation, making it convenient for system debugging, maintenance, and renovation.
